The mission

Hackaton exploring the digital landscape

redesign-the-netherlands-in-48-hours-posterThe streets you walk through it. The air you breathe. The park where you walk the dog. The soil where you stand on. Lampposts. Sidewalks. Benches. Water. Everything in your immediate surroundings has been thought through. That thinking is captured in rules, laws, rules, regulations. The spatial design of the Netherlands has so many rules that only experts have overview on the whole. Ordinary people, residents, business owners have lost their way. Information is (digital) available, but it is too much, not clear, sometimes contradictory and not transparent. That is difficult when you would like to improve this environment, make it more convenient, better or more friendly. This is difficult if you want to develop a initiative in this area. Because what is allowed and what not? And who have to come along?

That is the challenge in the Hackathon ‘Redesign Holland in 48 hours’.

From 2019, all the arrangements have been merged and simplified into one Environmental Planning Act, one law for the whole physical environment. But that is not enough. Technology can help to realize much of the goals of this new law:

    • Residents gain more influence over their own environment
    • Governments, businesses and citizens work together for a (better) design of the surroundings
    • The way to authorize an initiative is much shorter (how about one day!)

Will you help us to make a leap forward with new technology? To work on a Netherlands more pleasant and livable all together? Then join the Hackathon. You will be able to work with data from the province of North Brabant, Municipality of Eindhoven and DataLand. With ICT you can solve one of the four specific challenges. Write 25/26 October in your diary. Notification procedure as well as the elaborate challenges follow as soon as possible!

Your challenges

challenge 1: Scan of surroundings

About every area , every place in the Netherlands there has already been thought of: what it is meant for, what is allowed, what is special about it and what could change.
And what is in all of this the most important. What weights the most?
That is a lot and is frequently recorded in a forest of rules, norms, policy documents, cards you name it.
How do I as initiator get a ‘push on the button’ answer to this question? Without surprises, without ‘the long wait’, fitting with the initiative of the place or road to a more beautiful Netherland.

Challenge 1

challenge 3: Brainport ecosystem

The development of an area by the community from the users of the area: Partners, companies, inhabitants; that is the dream of a initiator of Brainport Park.
Brainport Park is an area just outside the city of Eindhoven with a lot of diversity and possibilities. An area what is looking for a connection with the city. But how do you build a community who’s ecosystem will stow and carry Brainport Park?
